Some people think that possums are cute creatures. While it’s understandable why people feel this way, it doesn’t mean that everyone wants possums on their property. Regardless of their looks, these creatures can cause problems. For many homeowners, they cause one or both of the following common problems. If a homeowner has taken the time to plant a lovely garden that is full of attractive plants, it can be quite infuriating when a possum comes along and digs up all of the plants’ roots. These animals can also cause a problem when they tear through garbage and leave a littered mess in their wake.

If you’re having one or both of these issues with possums, you probably want to know how to solve them. However, just because you don’t want possums doing these things doesn’t mean that you want to harm them. Fortunately, there are ways to solve these problems without needing to harm the possums causing them. When it comes to dealing with possums and trash, your first option is to make your can more secure. The easiest way to do this is by attaching one or two bungee cords to the top of your trash can. If possible, you can also move your can to a shed so that it’s not out in the open.

For an issue with possums tearing up your garden, you have two main options. The first is to secure the area around where your plants are located. This is fairly easy to accomplish by using chicken wire. If you aren’t able to do this or continue to have a problem, you can purchase a possum trap. With this type of trap, you can catch a possum without harming it in any way. Once you catch it, you can then take it five or more miles from your home and rerelease it into the wild.
